On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the IEEE Canada Electric Power and Energy Conference, it’s my privilege and pleasure to welcome you to 21st edition of this annual meeting. Although, we would have greatly valued hosting this event in-person in Toronto, we will be organizing this conference virtually for a second year. As such, we’re very much looking forward to your broad participation from within and outside Canada.
As always, the EPEC program represents the latest in technical advances within the multidisciplinary field of power and energy. The lively interaction amongst academic, industrial, and public sector stakeholders is essential to the success of such a critical area to society and we’re proud to provide an international forum for presentation and discussion of peer-reviewed research, development and implementation thrusts.
EPEC 2021 features an array of paper presentations, tutorials, special sessions, panels, guest speakers and plenary keynote talks. Our conference theme for this year is Renewable Energy and Smart Grids for Future Sustainable Cities, and reflects the driving need for advances in alternative forms of reliable energy to support the quest to reverse global climate change. We’re proud of our selection of keynote speakers who represent the rich breadth of this field.
I would like to thank the tremendous efforts of our Organizing Committee, the technical program committee, reviewers and other volunteers who have generously donated their time and knowledge. We are also grateful to our plenary keynote speakers, tutorial instructors, forum panelists and paper authors for making the conference a success. A special thanks to our fearless leader, Ali Nabavi, General Chair of EPEC 2021, for keeping spirits high and navigating the many challenges of holding a conference during a pandemic. Finally, a big thank you to IEEE Canada and the IEEE Toronto Section for supporting this conference.
